Green Technology

Doing our bit for the environment

We have a high efficiency Biotech boiler from Austria that uses wood pellets to produce hot water and heating for the hotel.

Wood pellets are a completely sustainable form of fuel, as the wood that goes into making them has to be guaranteed to be from a managed woodland where replacement trees are re-planted – in addition the wood pellets are often made with sawdust that is a by-product from wood being used in other industries, such as to make fence posts or timber for building houses.

Wood pellets also offer us a big carbon saving over burning a fossil fuel – for our 65kW boiler we save about 11 tonnes of carbon emissions per year compared to using heating oil instead.
